Heard in our office this week: 'thank god for output sheets'. Output sheets are the checklist we use when outputting a file to a printer or publisher. The staff member proclaiming thanks in a relieved and breathy tone was outputting an ad to a publisher and in the process discovered that the ad was the wrong size.
Checklists are like insurance, awfully dull right up to the moment you need them.
Wouldn't it be lovely if those sorts of mistakes didn't happen? But they do and the output sheet did its job and the mistake was caught before the ad went out.
Chalk up another win to the value of investing time developing checklists - not the sexiest thing to do but they look pretty good when they save the day.
