Most websites do not contain just straight content such as text or images. Many websites also have built-in functionality to make for a better user experience by showing content in a more efficient manner.  For example, if there is content that you would only like to be accessible by a certain group then access to the content can be controlled by functionality which hides it from anyone without special permission. The type of functionality that can be implemented on a website is almost limitless, it's all about making your content easier to locate, access and creating a better experience for your users.
