The only Audi R8 GT3 racecar to compete outside of Europe is wearing Penfold Audi Sport livery.
The stunning FIA Sportscar homologated R8 GT3 is in the hands of, 2008 Australian GT Champion, Mark Eddy, who has moved to the R8 from his previous Lamborghini Gallardo.
With only 20 customer race cars produced each year securing the car for the Australian GT series is a testament to the Audi Motorsports interest in the Australian market and Eddy’s racing credentials.
The R8 GT3 is a very special beast indeed. Having only debuted in the 2009 European season, R8 GT3s secured three European championship titles and 23 victories. The car boasts a 500 hp V10 engine with a full race gearbox and is hand finished by Audi’s motor sport division, Quattro GmbH. It also features many of the aerodynamic and performance features perfected on the all-conquering Audi LMS sports cars.
The Penfold Audi Sport R8 GT3 has already run in the Adelaide Clipsall and Melbourne Grand Prix rounds, with a creditable 11th placing in current championship standings, during its initial settling in period.
Look out for the Mark Eddy, Penfold Audi Sport R8 GT3 in the remaining Australian GT Championship rounds, which will run at the Eastern Creek, Philip Island, Bathurst and Sandown V8 Supercar events.
